Nationalism, Imperialism, Militarism
Nationalism and extreme patriotism were significant contributing factors to the outbreak and spark to World War 1. Europe's strong figures all developed a firm but excessive belief in its own culture, economics and military supremacy, believing that they were much stronger than any other country. This over-confidence in themselves led to what ended to be the start of World War 1. The fact that countries saw themselves as better and stronger than other countries started disputes amongst this countries. When the war broke out counties that were over-confident in their ability to be successful started making disputes with other countries which led to a all-out war with countries fighting everywhere across the globe. These nationalistic and patriotic feelings were a huge contributing factor to the first World War.
Imperialism is when a country takes over new lands or other counties and explore more land then subject that land to their rule, making the country more threatening and powerful. By 1900 the British Empire extended over five continents and France had control of large areas of Africa. With the rise of industrialism countries needed new markets. The amount of lands 'owned' by Britain and France increased the rivalry with Germany who had entered the scramble to acquire colonies late and only had small areas of Africa. With the three strongest countries competing for more land wars were bound to break out, a war between Great Britain and the Germans started and the Germans also started war with France, this was the main fact that was behind World War 1.
Militarism means that the army and military forces are given a high profile by the government. The growing European divide had led to an arms race between the most powerful countries. The armies of both France and Germany had more than doubled between 1870 and 1914 and there was a fierce competition between Britain and Germany for mastery of the seas. The British had introduced the 'Dreadnought' an effective battleship in 1906. The Germans soon followed suit introducing their own battleships. The Germans also drew up a plan of action that involved attacking France through Belgium if Russia made an attack on Germany. This was the final stage that kicked off World War 1, all the countries were fighting for control over everything and eventually trouble was about to break out.

The Triple Alliance was the military alliance among Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. The alliance was a huge part of the war as they were neighbouring and all agreed that in the emergency of an attack they could easily group and help the other countries if they were in need of assistance. The Triple Alliance was a closely knit alliance and were the opposite of the Triple Entente, they were enemy warring groups and were the two main factors in the First World War.
The Triple Entente was the military alliance that linked Russia, France and Great Britain. Similar to the triple alliances they helped each other when in time of war, in World War 1 the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance were at war with each-other.
